Every year, human beings used million tons of plastic around the world and this affects to climate change, lives and global environment. To avoid this negative impact, Salariin Kampuchea organized the plastic workshop for130 people. This includes parents, students and community leaders that conducted by Bamboo Stage group and cooperated with Global Action for Environment Awareness Company (Gaea) in Siem Reap. Please read more how the workshop conducted and how it influences and educates children and young people and community.
How the Plastic workshop run?
Firstly, we asked Global Action for Environment Awareness Company (Gaea) for environment experts/educators to the workshop for the community at our school. Second, during the workshop, the environment expert from Gaea introduce about the disaster and negative impact from plastic used by human beings on our planet every year. They also educate everyone to get involved to reduce plastic use as much as possible. Thirdly, Bamboo Stage did their show for the participants.
The show was about Angko Roo talking about people use too much plastic daily for living. They throw plastic everywhere. These plastic includes straw, plastic sack, bag, biodegradable package…etc. Then couples of chicken, hens and cocks where they used to live with fresh and friendly environment started to eat those plastics that human beings throw on the ground. The animals like hens and cocks do not know it is plastic so they eat it. Furthermore, human beings themselves had heath problem, too. As the results, animals and human beings got sick and died because hens and cocks ate food and plastic from plastic sack. Whereas human beings got influent from plastic when they burn it and they breathe the air from the smoke around them.
Overall, the show wanted to educate that people use too many plastic for their daily lives affect to the planet, environment, people health, animals and living things. They realized better about environment and they reduce plastic use in their living. Finally, all participants walked, cleaned and picked up plastic and rubbish in the community.
Sopheak, one of our students expresses her feeling about the plastic workshop and the show. “Hello, my name is Sopheak. I am a student at Salariin Kampuchea Organization. A few months ago, I participated in the plastic rubbish workshop conducted at Salariin Kampuchea. For me, I am very interesting in the workshop and I really enjoy the show because I have learnt about the negative impact of plastic and community engagement for cleaning environment. For me, before I have never known clearly how to manage rubbish and its pollution and I did not know also how my daily actions affect to pollute the environment but after I joined the workshop, I know better. I know every sing life for example human, animals, fish, land, air need cleaning environment on the planet”.
For the community I think that when they understand about the negative impact of the plastic or rubbish, they will engage with environment management or engage in cleaning our environment. Then they will become a role model for other communities. Finally, everyone get involved to take of their own action and clean, manage rubbish and reduce plastic then our planet is cleaned and then climate change is no longer.
In the next three months, we will arrange a traffic law workshop, first Aid training, paint the school and hand washing.
