By Ravy Vang | Executive Director

Practice Hand washing
Practice Hand washing

Every year, our school improve basic hygiene and health care to children. For example, for the last three months, we have organized and conducted hand washing and toothbrushing activities for our students. These activities benefit and improve students’ basic hygiene. So, pleased read more how the events arranged, conducted and remained to our people in the community where we work with.

Handwashing

Every 3 months, we organize and conduct handwashing. It is aimed to educate children in order to improve their basic hygiene. It improves the way how children live with cleanness, and we learn them to realize when they have to wash their hands. Furthermore, they realize what happens if their hands are dirty when they are having meal and sleeping.

During the Handwashing lesson, Over 200 young children are separated with their class teachers. The teachers teach them the theory of how to wash their hands and what materials they could use to wash their hands. The teachers play movies on how to wash hands so they easily understand the ways how to wash hands.

During the practice, the teachers lead their students to the washing station. Children make lines and go to the washing station. Then they start putting their hands into the water in the bucket after that they use soap to wash and clean their hands for 40 seconds. Finally, they move to another bucket to clean hands with clean water. They do this as the group.

Saly, one of students expresses her feeling about handwashing. Hello my name is Saly. “ I am very happy to join the hand washing activities. I know how to wash hands and when I wash hands, I use soap. If we don’t wash our dirty hands, we will get diarrhea and stomachache”.

Toothbrushing

As young children don’t know how to take care their teeth and their parents also pay less attention to their kids’ health teeth because some parents don’t know how to train their kids about brushing teeth. As result, there are many young children at our school have bad teeth and we want to improve teeth’s health. So over 200 kids get one toothpaste and one toothbrush each.

Normally, we have two steps for toothbrushing project. First, teachers teach them theory in their classes separately. This include when to brush teeth, how many times to brush teeth, what food they have to avoid and eat. The teachers show the pictures of bad teeth and bad, good food in the slide show. Second, children practice toothbrushing outside of the classrooms with brush and paste provided. They practice two days. They get one bush and one paste each after the practice.

Reaksa, one of students expresses her feeling about toothbrushing activities and lesson. “ Hi, I am Reaksa. I am very excited to the brushing lesson. Before I attend in the lesson, I don’t what food destroys my teeth and what food is good for my teeth. I don’t know how to brush my teeth and how many times to brush teeth. However, when I join the lesson, I know what food is good and what food I have to avoid. I know I have to brush my teeth two times a day and I have to brush my tongue. Furthermore, I am very happy to get one toothpaste and one toothbrush after I finish the lesson”.

In the next three months, we will make 5 classroom floors, and celebrate graduation ceremony.
