After reopening school for classroom learning for 3 months, all the schools in Cambodia were closed again because the 3rd wave of the covid-19 community outbreak and pandemic in the nationwide. However, our school, teachers and students are adapting themselves again for online teaching and learning during covid-19 pandemic for enhancing education and knowledge. Pleased read more what we have done for adapting during the hardest time.
Call for App installation for online learning
All our teachers and staff called to parents and students to install App-ZOOM and Telegram for attending in our online learning. Most parents and students don’t know how to download and install in their PC and mobile phone. Thus, they are invited to come to our school for App download and installation. Our teachers and staff helped them to download and installed the Apps-ZOOM and Telegram.
Practice how to use ZOOM and Telegram
After downloaded and installed the Apps, our teachers and staff taught parents and students how to use zoom and telegram on their mobile phones at our school. We set telegram account with their mobile phone number whereas zoom, we just installed the App and sent them the zoom link then they practice zoom meeting with our teachers for a few minutes. Students and parents never join online learning seem to be happy when they can use the zoom and join to see face to face meeting and teacher’s face on the zoom meeting. They played with the zoom features and functions.
Adapting themselves new learning environment
They were waiting for classroom learning for a few months but all schools are not allowed to reopen because of covid-19 pandemic before they decided to adapt and encourage their children to join online courses. They realize that online class is better than their kids have no class and lessons to learn. Finally, they are familiar and feeling to learn with zoom meeting for online learning and they can gain and improve their English and Chinese language skills with new learning tools during the hardest time.
Sokha, one of our students express her feeling for online learning. “I am very happy to join online class. It looks like I am in the classroom. I can see my teacher, and my friends in the zoom. I can chat and talk to them as well as in classroom. I can learn new things about zoom functions/technology and improve my English language, too. In the past, I think that I could not learn through online but when I am bored to wait for long time to learn in classroom, it paused me to adapt and coordinate myself with new tool and try it. We can learn everywhere when we have internet”.
In the next three months, we will continue online/ social distance learning. We are going to conduct monthly test and assessment to measure their learning progress. We are not sure when we can start to reopen the school so online learning is the best options for improving and keeping kids learned during the pandemic. We will conduct online workshop about SDGs of UN and with its first topic about water.
