We enhance education through educational activities. To achieve these, we provide supplementary extra curriculums to support disadvantaged students in Siem Reap through English program, computer skills, work experience, community library, life skill, scholarship program, sport club and partnership with public schools and hotels for work experience as well as career guidance. What we have over the last three months we have continued our progress remanding many positive changes and achievements in the organization that make a positive impact in the project region.
Sport Club
Our football coach partnered and arranged a friendly football match between Salariin Kampuchea (SK) football team and Khmer for Khmer Organization football team (KKO) The aim is to improve our student’s playing ability and communication among NGO in the project region. Finally, our students and their students, U’s 16 had a great fun together with fair and friendly play.
One student, Pich express his feeling about attending in the football friendship match between SK and KKO. “Hello! My name is Pich. I am feeling well and happy when I play football with others because I can meet friends, and make new friends with other people at football field. It can help me to become a good health.
Basic Hygiene- Hand Washing and Tooth Brushing projects
For the last three months, to improve and promote our students’ basic hygiene, our English teachers conducted toot brushing and hand washing project. There were more 200 children and young adult participated in the projects. They understand better about how to brush their teeth, how to eat good food for their teeth, and keep them clean. They also are able to wash their hands after and before meal. With hand washing, the students also learnt how to wash their hands, and understand better about the benefits of washing hands (keep them in good health and defend from some diseases).
One student, Sophal express her feeling about tooth brushing. “Hello! My name Sophal. I am very happy that our school make a workshop about tooth brushing. And it teaches about how to brush teeth to all students. Tooth brushing is making whitening teeth and good smile to everyone around us and how to keep our teeth stronger. Our teacher offered us a tooth brush and toothpaste after the workshop. I am very and thank you for all teachers and volunteers that make this workshop for us. I really love my teacher”.
Library
It is not different from the 3 last month, we have done similarity but we found the good lesson learnt. Our librarian conducted a project to improve reading skill and promote reading values to young people at Salariin Kampuchea called “The More You Read, The More You Win”. According to our experience, it is a good challenge for children and young people to improve an awareness of reading habit and gain more knowledge.
One student, Chanmesa express her feeling about participating in the challenge and how she won others “Hello! My name Chanmesa. I think that a library is a place where documents are kept. To help students to be as clever students. Furthermore, it is as a teacher who teaches or provides us knowledge if we come to access it. As we know Salariin Kampuchea provides English, computer, life skill and community library access. What I can do in the library are reading books, do research on internet, play games, reading club, group study, folding and drawing pictures and watching movies. For last month, SK librarian conducted a challenge called “The more you read the more you win”. As the result, I won the challenge and got award because I have accessed very often to the library. I books, pens, pencils for my winner. I am very happy and proud of myself to get these awards. Thank you to Salariin Kampuchea for organizing this challenge”.
English Decoration and Testing
For the last three months, English class become to the end of their course for let’s go 3 students. We provided a certificate test for Let’s Go 3. As the result, there were 43 of 52 students passed the certificate test of let’s go 3 and will remain the certificate for the students who passed. Congratulation for them.
One student, Soben shared his feelings about the benefits of his first visit at the hotel:
We have also decorated our English classroom with our students. They were proud and happy to help decoration their English classroom with their friends, volunteers and teachers/staff. We thanks to our supporters who made it happened.
Computer Competition
To improve our student’s ability and self-learning, our computer arranged a competition among ICT students who are studying basic computer (typing competition).
One student, Sreyhan shared her feelings about a computer competition. “My name is Sreyhan. I am 13 years old. I am a student studying at 5:30 class in computer program at Techno class. I would like to tell you about my reason that I got number 1 from computer typing competition. I always practice typing when I am free from my study and from housework. An award that I got from the competition are pens, pencils, books and encouragement. I think that the typing master is making my hands type faster speed and avoiding mistake.
Finally, I am very happy and excited that I can get this number and the award from the competition program and I suggest to all my friends to try to type it as faster as me".
Life Skill Visit
The 4th life skill generation students had their first visit at Soha hotel in Siem Reap town.
One student, Soben shared his feelings about the benefits of his first visit at the hotel: “My name is Soben I am studying at Salariin Kampuchea organization. I’m studying English and life skill course.
Many weeks ago I went to visit Sokha Angkor Hotel. I felt so happy when I heard this visit and I know a lot about the hotel, departments, and responsibilities of the hotel staffs. I passed the front desk, the staff are friendly and smiling. This visit encourage my dream to become true. I hope I will work there one day when I graduate from high school and university.
Finally, I would like to thanks to my teachers and Salariin Kampuchea team so much that allow me to participate in the visit and life skill course as well as to have a better education”.
In the next three months, we will conduct Certificate Test of New Headway Elementary and let’s go 6, arrange Pchum Ben and Certificate Delivery Party, decorate Smart English class, and visit hotel for life skill students. For the community library, optional activities will be offered to children and adults through folding picture, and reading club. For computer program, we will conduct group teaching among students in each class. We will arrange a football competition within SK football teams.
