English class and Spelling Bee

On behalf of Salariin Kampuchea (SK), students, staff and board of directos, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all our donors, supporters, volunteers, partners and friends who have been a part of our organization this year. Without your support, Salariin Kampuchea could not have performed as well as it did. At our school location in Veal village, Chreav commune, Siem Reap district remains changes and great success. Thus, we would like to share with you the annual report for 2016.

Programs

English Classes: There were twelve English classes with 306 students applied to study with Salariin Kampuchea. There were 43 students left school because of they were busy with public schools, getting scholarship for vocational training, having jobs, and helping house work.

Certificate and Graduation: 82 certificates were offered to the students who graduated from Let’s Go 3, 6, and New Headway Elementary and Pre-Intermediate within the academic year 2016. The graduation and certificate party was celebrated for the successful students during Pchum Ben farewell party in October.

Competition and outcome:Over 200 students participate in Spelling Bee; 5 students win and get reward. 36 students got part-time employment with Pacific Hotel during December.

Life skill project

During the year of 2016, there were 30 students enrolled for the 5th generation of life skill program. There were 24 graduated successfully. Our enthusiastic Life Skills Students visited different hotels as well as the vocational training center-tourism school in Siem Reap to get a better idea of how a hotel operates in a busy tourist centre and to get career guidelines, to gain some experience in a variety of jobs as well as to improve access to skills for their future career. With the boom of tourism in the town there are good opportunities for young adults in Salariin Kampuchea wanting to work in the hotel industry in the future.

Computer Project

77 students attended in the course during the year of 2016. 63 graduated successfully from MS. Word, Excel, internet and email students. Currently 14 students are studying in basic computer MS. Word and Ms. Excel. 8 students dropped out during the year because of state school curriculum and work.

Library project

During the year our youth team and volunteers run daily library which conducted different activities not only with our school students but with other children and teenagers from the surrounding communities. Reading club, reading comprehension, movie show, folding pictures and drawing, playing different games were popular for external and internal students. Throughout the year, on average, 22 students come to each library time.

Scholarship and sponsorship

In 2016, 8 adults from Salariin Kampuchea have still received scholarship to study at university in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh from the Chance2Study organization, and individual sponsors. There are three students graduated successfully from their universities and have got jobs.
