From Darkness to Dignity: Ruby's Story

Dear Friend,

At just 13, Ruby’s world collapsed from the inside. Her home was fragile, drained by her stepfather’s gambling addiction. This pressure led to the ultimate betrayal: her own step-sister forced Ruby to take her place in the sex trade.

She turned the X platform into a digital storefront, advertising Ruby’s image to strangers. Buyers were invited into private chats to negotiate, buying and selling a child’s life like a commodity.

When police uncovered a digital lead, LIFT International stepped in. Our team spent 76 grueling hours extracting digital evidence. We uncovered a shocking network of nearly 50 men who had exploited her.

This technical expertise allowed law enforcement to pierce the darkness. They located Ruby and immediately removed her from harm.

For Ruby, true freedom demanded justice. Confronting 50 offenders is a terrifying burden for a child. But she does not walk alone.

LIFT’s legal team stands beside her as a shield. We ensure the prosecution process remains child-centred, protecting her from re-traumatization.

This is the essence of justice that restores dignity. While her traffickers face the courts, Ruby is no longer fighting for survival. She is surrounded by care, safely reintegrated into education, and healing from her past.

Breaking the Cycle

In the digital age, connection can also mean vulnerability. Behind the screen of online platforms, networks of exploitation can hide, turning technology into a tool for trafficking.

Poverty can force an impossible choice. For two stepsisters, Ratre and Manee, a difficult home life pushed them into a world of exploitation.

Desperate to survive and provide even a small comfort for her younger sister, Ratre made an unthinkable decision. She introduced Manee to the same dangerous world that had trapped her.

For nearly a year, Manee was caught in this cycle. Her freedom came when our partners, the Region 5 Royal Thai Police, intervened.

This is where one rescue became a large-scale operation. The police asked for LIFT’s Digital Forensics support, knowing that online platforms are often used to hide and facilitate this kind of exploitation. After 60 hours of expert analysis, our team found something bigger than a single case. They uncovered a network, with trails leading to dozens of men who were buying children for sex.

This discovery launched a major joint investigation. In a single week, a task force of LIFT, our partners, and the police arrested 35 suspected child sex buyers across 9 districts. A network was dismantled.

Today, Manee is safe. She is healing with the support of our social workers. At the same time, our legal team is fighting to secure $40,000 in compensation for the trauma she endured.

Her sister Ratre’s case reminds us how complex this fight is. She is both a victim and an offender. It shows why our work must also safeguard at-risk youth before they are forced to become traffickers themselves.

Manee’s story is one of profound courage. And because of you, it is part of a much larger victory for justice.

Story of Grace : From Fear to Freedom

In today's connected world, danger has new places to hide. A simple job ad on social media can be a trafficker's lure, turning a dream into a nightmare. Every young person deserves the right to grow up safe. But for too many, that right is stolen.

Grace is 16. A TikTok job ad promised her a first step toward independence. It seemed simple: reply to messages, earn good money. Her family was proud. But the promise was a lie.

The “agent” drove Grace and her friend across the border into Cambodia. Their phones were taken. They were locked away and forced into a criminal scam. When Grace refused, her captors threatened to sell her.

In the darkness, Grace held onto hope. She prayed to go home.

Her father never stopped fighting for her. He contacted LIFT, and we worked with Thailand’s Anti-Trafficking Police to find the girls. With help from the Thai Embassy, Grace was brought home.

Her story didn’t end there. Our legal team stood with her as she faced her trafficker in court. In January 2025, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with no parole. Justice was served.

Today, the fear Grace once felt is fading. She is healing. She dreams of joining the army, like her father once hoped to. She dreams of a small farm to call her own.

“This experience made me stronger,” Grace says. “Thank you for giving me the chance to build a new future—in my own way.”
