Across Madagascar, climate change and economic hardship continue to challenge livelihoods, food security, and sustainable development. The Southeast region has faced a relentless series of climate-driven disasters, with droughts, floods, cyclones, and wildfires affecting several SEED projects. However, thanks to your generosity, we are moving forward, helping communities adapt, recover, and build lasting resilience against future challenges in the region.
One of the many projects this fund supports is Project Renitantely, which works to improve the sustainability and viability of beekeeping as a livelihood in the Anosy region. The recent drought and January fires have severely reduced available bee forage, threatening hive survival and honey production. In response, efforts have focused on increasing forage and controlling pests, particularly the invasive Varroa mite, a destructive parasite. To address these challenges, 17kg of Moringa seeds, 530 fruit tree seedlings, and 40 natural pest management seedlings have been provided, along with training to ensure an effective response.
To improve financial security, 53 beekeepers and their families have completed financial literacy training, equipping them with the tools to manage and reinvest their earnings. This has led to the formation of six new savings groups, a step towards greater independence and stronger livelihoods.
Beyond the numbers, your contribution is helping to ensure the continued survival of bee colonies, enabling beekeepers to establish sustainable livelihoods, enhancing food security, and empowering communities to share their knowledge and expertise.
Thank you for standing with us on this journey!
