Challenge

In Mexico, less than 60% of teenagers ages 15 to 19 years are enrolled in school. Less than 40% of sexually active teenagers use protection and teen pregnancies have increased in the last years. Nowadays, Mexico is the leading country in childhood obesity and holds second place in adult obesity. Almost, 50% of women over the age of 15 have been victims of gender based violence. 58% of the population ages 15 to 74 years is unemployed.

Solution

Through our participatory workshops children, teenagers, parents and teachers will develop life skills (e.g. self-knowledge, assertive communication, critical thinking, self-efficacy), learn to take more responsible decisions and become agents of change in their own lives and their families and communities. The main goal of these workshops is to help improve their conditions according to each community and its needs.

Long-Term Impact

Our programs have managed to reduce school drop out rates by 24%, which has a direct positive impact on the lives of the children, teenagers and their families. They're also achieving good results in the promotion of life skills, with children, teenagers and their families learning to take care of themselves, be responsible, create opportunities for better living conditions, and to become agents of change of their own lives and communities .
