Girls and boys develop skills to prevent gender violence

By Luis Enrique Elizalde | Lider de Programas de Educacion

We have returned to help girls and boys develop life skills and intrinsic empowerment with a gender perspective to prevent violence.

Hand in hand with the Vesta Program “Walking together”, we return to take activities in 2 primary schools and a preschool in 3 states of Mexico (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua; Huamantla, Tlaxcala and San Blas, State of Mexico); up to this point we have developed the contents and materials with which we will implement 3 workshops with teachers, who will replicate the topics with their students, in the same way we will raise awareness among mothers and fathers with 6-hour workshops in each school.

The topics for the workshops with teachers and mothers and fathers are:

Prevention of violence (identification of gender violence), Patriarchal system and other systems of oppression, Macro and Micro-machismos, Normalization of violence, New masculinities (Alternative masculinities), Historical contribution of women.

We are currently organizing with the educational authorities of each school, the logistics to implement 1 6-hour workshop for teachers in each primary school and 4 conferences of 2 hours each for mothers and fathers in each school. To complement the activities with students and ensure that the topics are adequately replicated, we will make follow-up visits to each teacher when they work on the Program topics.

At the end of the school year, we will achieve, favorable changes:

• In life skills and empowerment.

• In gender perspective knowledge.

• In attitudes about gender perspective.

• In the identification of gender violence.

• In attitudes towards gender equality, violence prevention and the promotion of citizenship.

• In behaviors regarding violence prevention and the promotion of citizenship.

• In school climate.

The scope of the program is:

37 teachers

161 students from the 3 schools

90 mothers and fathers

With your support we will reach more than 700 more people who are part of the close circle of girls and boys (family, friends and teachers).

Join us and be part of the change!
