“I want to, I can… prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections in teenagers”
Welcome back GlobalGivers! I’m sure you will be as happy as we are with the results we have had. (and we still continue working helping marginalized Mexican children to study in other regions of the country, but that in our next report, stay tuned!).
Imagine a teenager in the Mexican context where education quality in public schools is poor. In the future he/she is unlikely to have enough knowledge and abilities to succeed in life and reduces the odds to leave poverty behind. Now imagine that same teenager with a pregnancy or a sexually transmitted infection, his/her chances may have become slimmer. More than 280,000 teenagers drop out school because of a pregnancy every year, which means 280,000 people without the opportunity of a better future and more probability to become part of the poverty stats, every year.
You, Globalgivers are making the difference! We (with your help) are increasing the results.
In Coahuila State:
A total of 4,144 participants (664 more than the original goal) took part in the “I want to, I can… prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections in teenagers” prevention program.
They recognized the responsibility of taking care of their own sexuality and their partner, while strengthened skills like teamwork and assertive communication, and overcame the barriers they might have to address this issue.
They significantly increased their knowledge level about sexuality, gender, pregnancy and STIs prevention.
Significantly improved their attitudes toward sexuality, towards autonomy and responsibility in matters of their sexual life, and to the shared responsibility for preventing pregnancy.
Significantly increased their ability to conduct themselves in a way aimed at preventing risk behaviors in sexuality, such as talking to your partner about contraception, buy condoms, search for scientific information on sexuality, refusing unprotected sex, see a specialist, organize health activities to prevent sexual risks.
The teenagers gave very high marks to the workshops in which they participated (9, on a scale of 1-10) by Yo Quiero Yo Puedo - IMIFAP.
We are thankful for your support, and we will continue bringing awesome results. Stay tuned for more soon!
