We are currently in Fourth Term and the school year in South Africa is coming to an end. It has been a productive year for the two schools, St Mary’s Primary & Mzamomhle Primary, supported by the Help more South African children achieve in Maths project. Both these schools have been diligent in completing their weekly Maths Curriculum Online(MCO) exercises and termly assessments during the year.
Kimberly and Erin are both grade 3 learners (aged 10) at St Mary’s Primary school. According to their teacher Ms Peters, these two learners were both struggling greatly with Maths especially when it came to problem solving sums. “There is a wide variety of problem story sums in the MCO Brain Quests which they have done and there is a definite improvement in their results. These two have become more confident in Maths and have gone from strength to strength throughout the year.”
Erin says that MCO has helped her with Maths, to read questions and to write good sentences. “It helped me in telling the time and also division sums. I enjoy going every week and learning new things. MCO has helped me improve so much this year.”
“When I heard that I had to repeat grade 3 I was sad but the Maths Online helped me improve this year. So when my teacher told me that I am trying very hard and that I’m doing well I was very happy it helped me a lot.” Kimberly
Erin’s results has increased by 18% since she started using Maths Curriculum Online in 2015 and Kimberly’s results by 28%.
With one assessment left for the year we are excited to see how Erin and Kimberly’s Maths will further improve. Thank you for your donations, this project that you are supporting is not just about helping learners like Erin and Kimberly with their Maths, but providing them with the confidence to realize that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
