An unexpected turn of events...

COVID-19 Prevention Training
COVID-19 Prevention Training

Bonswa GlobalGiving Family,

It is hard to believe it is already September 2020. It feels like we have lived a lifetime in the span of seven months as the world has been enveloped in two major pandemics, COVID-19 and racial injustice. Our hope and prayer is that as a global community we continue to address these issues, heal from them and make a better world for our current generation and for future generations. For Haiti, along with these two pandemics, came Hurricane Laura that swept throughout the country causing massive flooding. Needless to say, it has been quite the year. Last time we wrote to you, we were wrapping up our Clean Water-Sanitation Initiative for Rural Haiti and starting our new project to address our two Partner Communities essential needs as they navigate through COVID-19. One of those major needs was creating COVID-19 response packets to help our Partner Communities prevent and slow down the spread of COVID-19. These packets include gloves, masks and soap. Our goal was to start with 1,000 packets, 500 for each Partner Community. With your generous love and support, YOU have helped us to achieve not only this extraordinary feat, but results we had no plans for when we started 2020. THANK YOU! This is what your support has helped us accomplish in the last five months:

-May 2020:

  • Two Peasant Associations received educational training on COVID-19 prevention  from our medical team on the ground to educate their respective community members.
  • Sent down the first barrel of COVID-19 response packet materials to our Partner Communities in Petit Goave, which the Peasant Association leaders received in mid May.
  • Prepared the second barrel with the remaining COVID-19 response packet materials and shipped it out mid May, which arrived to the Peasant Association leaders in June.

-June 2020:

  • In an unexpected turn of events, C2C was connected with a doctor at the Petit Goave hospital, where we learned they were in need of medical supplies that would help them run properly on a daily basis, while also combating COVID-19 and keeping the medical professionals safe. With your support, we were able to send 22 barrels filled with medical supplies to the hospital and they were successfully delivered to the hospital on September 22!

Thus far, we have raised $830 out of our goal of $5,000. Our work continues to remain essential and even more so now as our communities remain steadfast in preventing the spread and staying healthy. The need for response packets, which will now also include food baskets for our Partner Communities, is at an all time high with a goal to reach 250 families. We will be vigilant in raising the remaining $4,170 to send more response packet materials down to our communities to keep them healthy, safe and moving forward. Until next... Be safe and stay well!
