We're excited to announce that this coming Friday, March 23rd two volunteers will be arriving in Uruguay to kick off the project for Violence Prevention against Kids in Montevideo! Clara is an Argentine elementary school teacher who has focused on recreation and play-based pedagogy. Luis is from Brazil and studied communication and non-profit management. They will work as a team for the coming year!
In their first month in Montevideo, the volunteers will be supporting two local Youth Centers, geared toward at risk teens in the Municipality F. They will be supporting local staff in workshops which strengthen life skills such as cooking, healthy interpersonal relationships, and computing, as well as recreational activities such as percussion, art, dance, and sports.
The volunteers will get first hand knowledge of the context which children, teens and adolescents face on a day to day basis. They will then carrying out a baseline study which reflects the strengths and weaknesses of the stakeholders involved in the project, as well as the community as a whole.
We are also working with the local network of grassroots organizations in the Municipality F. Early childhood centers, children's clubs, youth centers, elementary schools, high schools as well as non-profit organizations participate in the network and will be trained in violence prevention methodologies over the coming months.
Thanks again for supporting this iniative to make the Municipality F a better place for Uruguayan kids to grow up! We look forward to sharing more of our progress in the coming months!
