Help Provide Education to 300 Children in Need

1. Introduction

The Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD) continues its commitment to expanding quality, inclusive education for vulnerable and orphaned children in Solwezi District of Zambia. With the growing demand for digital skills, CCCYD has integrated ICT learning into its education program to ensure that children are not only school-ready, but also future-ready.

2. Number of Beneficiaries

During the reporting period, CCCYD provided education support to over 150 vulnerable children (boys and girls) from low-income households across Kimiteto, Mulemba, Kyawama and surrounding peri-urban communities in Solwezi District. These include children facing social and economic barriers such as poverty, single-parent households, teen-headed homes, and long distances to school.

3. Type of Education Support Provided

The support provided includes:

• Early childhood, primary and remedial learning support

• Basic literacy, numeracy and reading improvement

• Integration of ICT learning (computer literacy and digital awareness)

• Provision of learning materials (notebooks, pens, uniforms where available)

• Mentorship and life skills education through Glow Clubs and CCCYD mentors

• Safe learning environment within CCCYD community-based learning hubs

4. ICT Integration

In line with Zambia’s digital transformation agenda, CCCYD has now integrated basic ICT lessons into learning activities for children. Using donated laptops and solar-powered backup systems, learners are exposed to:

• Basic computer operations and internet awareness

• Typing, research skills and digital safety

• Educational digital platforms to enhance learning outcomes

This has particularly motivated girls to pursue STEM-related pathways, building confidence and early digital exposure.

Overview

We are excited to share the progress made through your generous support! The Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD) has continued to make a lasting impact by supporting 300 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) in Zambia. Through our integrated model of formal education, STEM education, and vocational skills training, we are building pathways to a brighter future for children who would otherwise be left behind.

Key Achievements This Reporting Period

1. Access to Education:
Out of the 300 children:

• 200 are currently enrolled in primary and secondary school with school supplies and tuition support.
• CCCYD continues to work closely with schools, caregivers, and community volunteers to ensure learners remain in school, especially girls at risk of dropping out.

2. STEM Education Expansion:

• 60 children (majority girls) have been enrolled in our newly launched Girls in STEM Initiative, receiving lessons in computer literacy, basic coding, robotics, and scientific exploration.
• We received support from the Australian Government (Harare DAP) to procure laptops and power generator, helping reduce the digital divide in Solwezi.

3. Vocational Skills Training:

• 60 adolescents (including teen mothers and out-of-school youth) are undergoing hands-on training in tailoring, carpentry, knitting, and financial literacy.
• We have integrated entrepreneurship and life skills education into our training, preparing youth for sustainable self-employment and income generation.

Challenges

• High demand for support continues to outpace our resources.
• Limited technical staff for vocational and STEM training.
• Rising costs of school materials and transport .

What’s Next

• Construction of additional training rooms to accommodate more learners.
• Strengthening our mentorship and alumni engagement to ensure long-term impact.
• Expanding the STEM curriculum to include more advanced ICT and practical science kits.
