Nurturing Hope: Supporting Ukrainian Children Amid the Trauma of War

Dear Supporter,

February 2024 marked the 2-year anniversary since the war in Ukraine started. Working with children and families in Ukraine, we witness how the war affects their mental health.

"Two years of this war are wreaking havoc on children’s mental health now. They have not been anywhere near a classroom for years, and they have not seen their friends. Many of their friends have gone," UNICEF spokesperson James Elder told VOA from Kharkiv, Ukraine, by Zoom (source: UNICEF).

We observe children and teenagers having trouble sleeping; the constant air raid alerts bring anxiety and fear into their hearts. Children also miss school due to bombings, and with destroyed school buildings, they are forced to learn online. For families without access to a computer or the internet, this is impossible.

As the trauma of war affects and will continue affecting children in the future, we are committed to supporting children and giving them some of their childhood back through Summer Camps, Education Support, Art therapy, Crafts, Counselling, and anything needed to support these young souls.

On the Remembrance Day for the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, the children at the refugee camp in Kamianske, Ukraine, created beautiful angels. One wish lies in their hearts – for this war to end and for peace. We share the same wish and hope.

We are forever grateful for your kind support that allows us to bring change into the lives of less fortunate people.

With gratitude,
