We teach Polish refugees from Ukraine. Knowing the basics of Polish helps them to communicate in the store, office, and job search. We run such classes in September and we know that they need to continue. We work with a qualified teacher whom the students liked. But our funds have already run out and we need support to continue. 30 people are waiting for help to learn Polish and have a better life. While adults are having lessons, their children need care - we will hire a Ukrainian art teacher.
When you run away from the war, the first thing you need after finding a safe shelter is to learn a new language. Ukrainian kids have 10 hrs of Polish lessons a week. And what about adults? Without the basics of the language, refugees are not able to live here with dignity, look for a job, or communicate with others. Language skills give them self-confidence, especially in these turbulent times ... Moreover, they need to be sure, that while they are having classes, their kids are cared for.
Polish lessons with a professional teacher they know, give refugees a sense of community, make them learn the language faster in the group, integrate better, and help them to feel safer and cared for. Lessons will be held 2 times a week in 2 groups. We receive feedback from participants: "we want to have more classes with Mrs. Ania", "you can't leave us without these lessons now", "we want to learn Polish with Mrs. Ania", "I'm happy that my kid spends time actively when I'm learning Polish".
Many refugees will stay in Poland for longer, so enabling them to learn Polish is the best investment. Thanks to a good command of the language, they will be able to function independently, without fear that they will not be misunderstood, or that they will not be able to communicate in a shop or an office. Friendships will be established between the participants; they will become a support and support group for each other. 30 ladies will feel safer and more confident in our country.
