Wild Parrot Rescue Updates - April 2021

By Sarah Mansfield | Operations Manager

Hello once again!

Like we do every April, we are pivoting from the “slow” time of year to prepping for Baby Season! We typically see lower rescue numbers from November through March; with all the other birds to care for and virtual events happening, it definitely didn’t feel all that slow for us this time. With your continued financial support, we have already rescued 16 wild parrots in 2021. Although intake numbers are lower this time of year, vet bills tend to be higher. This is due to the severity of injuries we see in the adult parrots that are rescued, as opposed to the un-injured youngsters we take in during the late Spring and all throughout Summer. We could not rescue and care for injured wild parrots without your continued donor support, so thank you for helping us!

Some good news: we are close to allowing our on-site volunteers to return! After a year without our volunteers helping around the rescue, we are excited to welcome them back. Some of them were able to check out the new facility before we moved birds over, but so far it has been a staff-only operation. Lucky for us, most of our on-site volunteers are happy and waiting to be able to return!

For our long-distance supporters, or those who want to feel more involved in our everyday work, we will soon be rolling out a new tiered donor rewards program! If you are already a recurring donor here on GlobalGiving, you will be able to select your tier. We will be sending individual emails to donors once the program is live. This way, you can stay connected and updated on everything we have going on through exclusive videos, photos, and staff/volunteer memos.

Like I mentioned above, we really could not continue rescuing and caring for Southern California’s wild parrots without your continued support. We hope you are doing well, and have the chance to get outside and enjoy nature in your area… whether you have parrots around or not!
