Over 100 fixed animals in Ayacucho, Andes of Peru!

By Karina Canales | Stray Animal Project Co-Founder & CEO

Thanks to your support Stray Animal Project has kicked off our neuter & spay program in Ayacucho, in the Andes of Peru and just surpassed 100 fixed dogs and cats!

A few months back we set the goal to expand our spay & neuter program into the poorest areas of Ayacucho in Peru, located in the Andes where a high percentage of the population is living below the poverty line and there is an overpopulation of stray animals. It is estimated that there are 1,000 dogs and 500 cats in three small communities roaming the streets. This includes a mix of strays and pets from locals, as it is part of the culture for pets to stay outside. Unfortunately, this means that most of these animals are not fixed due to both a lack of awareness about spay & neuter surgeries, and the means to pay for it.

Since then we've identified a team of veterinarians from a nearby area who can travel to Ayacucho to educate the population, perform the surgeries, and treat the animals if needed. We just surpassed 100 animals fixed in the Mollepata, Carmen Alto, and Wariccapampa communities! Through this project, we can truly impact the quality of life for these animals and prevent many more animals from suffering on the streets in the upcoming years.

See in this report some pictures of the work. Personally, one of the most touching moments was seeing the senior people of the area being so grateful and asking us to THANK YOU immensely -> see below the URL with a video message from a man who speaks in Quechua and is saying "Bless you for supporting me. I don't have money and I am very old. Thank you for helping my dog, thank you".

Please consider supporting our mission again so we can continue helping these communities in Peru. Also if it's not too much to ask, please help us share our GlobalGiving campaign with your friends and family. Thank you so much for believing in our mission and your continuous support
