Manopause is not an ending-It is a transformation

Menopause is not an ending-It is a transformation

Menopause is not an ending—it is a powerful transformation.

For many women, menopause is often spoken about in hushed tones, surrounded by myths, fear, and silence. Yet, in reality, it marks a profound phase of growth, strength, and renewal. Recognizing the importance of awareness and open dialogue, an impactful menopause awareness session was conducted with the women of Akshaya Self-Help Group (SHG), supported by the dedicated volunteers from JIPMER.

The session created a safe and welcoming space where women could openly share their experiences, concerns, and questions related to menopause. Many participants spoke about physical changes such as fatigue, joint pain, hot flashes, and sleep disturbances, while others highlighted emotional challenges including anxiety, mood swings, and a sense of isolation. For most, this was the first time they felt heard and understood without judgment.

JIPMER volunteers played a vital role by offering clear, medically accurate information in a simple and relatable manner. They explained the biological process of menopause, addressed common misconceptions, and emphasized that menopause is a natural transition—not a disease. The session also focused on practical strategies for managing symptoms, including balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, stress management, and the importance of timely medical consultation.

Equally important was the discussion on emotional well-being and self-care. Women were encouraged to prioritize their health, listen to their bodies, and seek support when needed. The facilitators stressed that caring for oneself is not selfish but essential, especially for women who have spent much of their lives caring for families and communities.

The interactive nature of the session empowered the Akshaya SHG women with knowledge and confidence. Laughter, learning, and moments of reflection filled the room as participants realized they were not alone in their journey. Many expressed relief and gratitude for gaining clarity and reassurance, while others felt inspired to share this knowledge with fellow women in their communities.

This initiative stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement. By bringing together grassroots women’s groups and medical professionals, the session bridged the gap between healthcare awareness and everyday lived experiences. It reinforced the belief that informed women are empowered women—and empowered women build stronger families and resilient communities.

Menopause is not the closing of a chapter; it is the beginning of a new one marked by wisdom, strength, and self-renewal. Through awareness, compassion, and collective support, we can transform this phase into one of confidence and dignity.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to GlobalGiving for their continued support in making this initiative possible.
