Home for abandoned girls in Puducherry
At Prime Educational and Social Trust, we believe that every girl deserves a safe, caring, and empowering environment to grow and reach her full potential. The Janani Home for Girls, located in Puducherry, South India, provides shelter, education, healthcare, and emotional support for girls who have been orphaned, abandoned, or come from single-parent and vulnerable families.
Since its inception, Janani Home has stood as a symbol of hope and second chances—a place where neglected childhoods are rebuilt with compassion, discipline, and opportunity.
To provide a nurturing home environment for vulnerable girls, ensuring their holistic development through education, life skills, and emotional well-being—so that each child grows into a confident, self-reliant, and compassionate adult.
Janani Home currently houses 30 girls aged between 6 and 18 years, all of whom are from marginalized or broken families. The home provides:
- Safe accommodation and nutritious meals
- Formal education in nearby government and private schools
- Remedial classes and tutoring support for academic progress
- Healthcare and counselling to promote physical and emotional well-being
- Vocational and life-skill training, including tailoring, computer literacy, and communication skills
- Cultural, sports, and creative programs to enhance confidence and social integration

Through our partnership with local volunteers, the girls participated in computer literacy and spoken English sessions, building confidence to communicate and prepare for future employment opportunities.
- Health and Hygiene Initiatives:
Regular health check-ups were conducted with support from local medical professionals. Awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene and nutrition were also organized.
- Recreation and Emotional Support:
Celebrations of festivals, birthdays, and cultural events have made Janani Home a joyful and emotionally enriching space for the girls.
Challenges We Face
Our biggest challenge remains the maintenance and renovation of the Home. The building, kitchen, and dormitories need repairs to ensure safety and comfort. Additionally, with rising costs of food, education, and utilities, sustaining quality care continues to be a financial strain.
Despite these hurdles, our team and supporters remain committed to providing an environment where each girl feels valued, loved, and empowered.
Impact
- 50+ girls have benefited from the Home since inception
- 100% school enrollment and retention
- Several alumni are now pursuing higher education or vocational careers
- Improved physical and emotional well-being through regular nutrition and counselling
Looking Ahead
We aim to:
- Expand our facility to accommodate more girls in need
- Strengthen our educational sponsorship and vocational training programs
- Develop a transition plan for older girls entering college or employment
- Renovate existing infrastructure to meet safety and hygiene standards
- With your continued support, Janani Home will keep transforming lives—one girl at a time.
