student impact
By Janet Tian | student volunteer
Over the last decade, years calm or tumultuous, Kids for Afghan Kids has existed as a consistent beacon of hope. When I first encountered K4AK at the age of eight, I learned the life-changing impact of direct action done "right through collaboration. KAK was an opportunity for me to learn about a whole different way of living, and raised my awareness of our American privileges. The connections that K4AK forms reinforces my belief that actions, large or small, have the potential to better lives, which we often forget in the cynical and individualistic worldview many of us adopt today. Especially now, Kids for Afghan Kids exemplifies to me the power of resistance to oppressive regimes through love, understanding, and humanity.

Two of our graduated students took and passed the exam to become teachers. They have been teaching at the project the past 4 months. Their energy and love of learning is evident in their teaching. Below is a letter (translated to English) from their students. We continue to educate the children of our village in this crutial time. It has become more and more difficult to raise funds as the world has lost hope in Afghanistan. We, however, will not lost hope and will continue to move forward for the futures of our families. Thank you for your continued support!
Dear Teacher Miss M and Miss S,
We want to say a big thank you for being there for us these past four wonderful months. You help us so much, and we’re really happy you’re our teacher.
You continue to inspire us with your passion for teaching and see greatness in each and every one of us. Your kindness and patience have made learning a joyful experience, and we feel fortunate to have you as our teacher.
Thank you for believing in us and for teaching us to believe in ourselves, too. You’re making a big difference, and we promise to try our best with the opportunities that are provided to us. We apprise you more than words can express
Thank you so much,
From your students

Graduation and New School Year
By Khris Nedam | US Director
Graduation and New School Year
Our Afghan Director just returned from a much needed trip to the project. Our school year in the village is mid-March through mid-December. The students who graduated in Dec. had a small graduation celebration. An important part of our Afghan Director’s visit was to hold a larger graduation celebration which included new clothes, scarves, and a luncheon. (Due to the sensitivity of taking pictures, the girls also wore face masks for the photos.). Our director also wanted to make sure our 23rd school year was running smoothly. He was able to purchase some needed supplies while there. Our biggest challenge in the past two years has been the shutting down of financial institutions in the country with the return of the Taliban. Our director travels to take funds and we have another resource we can use to wire funds. As a result our schools remain open and running, and with local support, our boys and girls continue to learn. As far as we know, our girls may be the only female graduates in the entire country. We celebrate our girls, but are also saddened at the situation for the rest of the country after so much progress during the previous 20 years. We also celebrated 35 boys graduating and 9 of our orphans graduated. Three students took the exam to be teachers - one girl and one boy passed this time. Both will be teaching at the project once they receive their certificates. Due to the inability for students to travel to the capital to continue their studies, we hope to raise funds to build a community college/trade school at the project.
We continue to move forward! The partnership with our village has survived and flourished since 1998. We always appreciate everyone who would like to join us with their time, energy, and/or finances. It is heart warming to see the difference one project can make for an entire village.
Warmest regards,
Khris
