Dear Global Givers,
We are happy to share an update from our project ‘Help to feed Hungry and Malnourished children!’ where we are aiming to feed at least 100 street children each day who are living on the streets of India’s capital, New Delhi.
As per a survey conducted by the Delhi Commission for Protection for Child Rights, 70,000 children were identified to be living in a ‘street situation’. Of the nearly 70,000 children mapped, at least 46,000 are in the age group of 6-14 years. Most of the children are found to be engaged as labourers in factories and roadside stalls while others were found begging and caught in substance abuse. These children are either abandoned or orphaned; missing or runaway children.
Since most of these children do not have any identity proof nor have registered places of birth, hence they often miss out on the government’s social schemes which include school enrolment and other rehabilitation programmes.
Through your support, we have started providing food to street children beginning the third week of September 22. We have managed to provide breakfast and lunch to 100 street children in three locations in Old Delhi. For breakfast, our team on the ground distributed bread with jam, tea and banana. As for lunch, rice, dal (lentil soup), green salad and pickle were served. We aim to continue providing these children with nutrition support from Monday to Saturday with two meals a day with a balanced diet.
We are trying our best to raise as many funds as we can to ensure that these children do not go to bed with a hungry stomach. We still have a long way to meet our target of 1000 street children. For this, we need your support so that together we are able to fight hunger. These children need our support more than ever and it will only be possible if we come together.
Thank you, Global Givers for believing in our work.
With deep gratitude,
Team iPartner India
