Fires out of control in Argentina

Dear Donors, Fundación Bomberos de Argentina, focuses on creating a safer and more resilient community. One of the objectives is to promote the welfare of volunteer firefighters and their proper social recognition to perform their tasks in the best possible way. Its beneficiaries are around 44,000 men and women who work as volunteer firefighters in more than 1,000 cities and 21 provinces in Argentina.

The latest campaign developed and currently ongoing is Puentes de la Prevención, which aims to collaborate between the community and firefighters in terms of prevention culture. The "Puentes de la prevención" campaign was launched in 2021 after the fires affected 14 Argentinean provinces. At this moment, volunteer firefighters assisted in more than 30,000 forest fires. More than 40,000 hectares affected across the country were recorded in the first months of 2021.

With the contribution of organisations, companies and especially donors like you, we have managed to make a sufficient investment to purchase 720 items to make up 80 Kits, leaving installed capacity for the 20 affected Volunteer Firefighter Associations in Chubut and Rio Negro, which have more than 660 firefighters.

As we have already told you in previous reports, the fires in Argentina have not only caused several damages, but several of them are still active. The work of Fundación Bomberos has not stopped in more than a year of intense work against the fire that threatens flora, fauna and inhabitants of the places.

In this scenario appears another important problematic agent, this work is being developed in a global health crisis given by the Covid - 19. For this reason, the Foundation is promoting Cuidá a los que te cuidan (Care for those who care for you).

During the COVID-19 health emergency since 2020 and in the face of a new wave of contagions, the fire departments are making an extra effort to provide containment and assistance in disasters and emergencies. Due to the nature of their work, they are exposed to the risk of contagion by coronavirus and must take extreme measures for prevention and health care through action protocols for their physical and mental wellbeing, as well as for the correct cleaning of the personal protection elements they use in their daily tasks as part of the sectors exempted from social, preventive and mandatory isolation.

Along with the COVID-19 containment tasks, there is a fear of an increase in the number of emergencies in which the members of the firefighting system provide assistance and, in order to be prepared, they need to have the necessary materials to comply with the prevention and care protocols.

Thanks to the support of companies, committed citizens and your donations, the Foundation delivered 1050 kits with cleaning and hygiene elements to volunteer firefighters all over the country.

Your help is essential to ensure both the prevention of the destruction of native ecosystems and villages and the care of the personnel extinguishing these fire outbreaks.
