Happy National Moving Month!

By Heather Keefe | Director of Fundraising

Make Your Move a #GOODMOVE
Make Your Move a #GOODMOVE

The “bread and butter” of the Move for Hunger movement is encouraging people to donate food when they move. Move for Hunger is proud to work with more than 750 moving companies across North America to rescue unopened, non-perishable food from their customers and deliver it to local food banks.

As a result of widespread community support, Move for Hunger has collected an astonishing 8 million pounds of food in less than 8 years! We’re thrilled to have earned this accomplishment, but we know we can be doing so much more to rescue food that should nourish someone in need.

One way that we’re expanding the Move for Hunger movement is by partnering with corporate relocation companies. Most large corporations have some kind of formal relocation policy to help attract and retain talent. Today’s employees, however, demand more than just perks; they want their company to be socially-responsible, sustainable, and green.

That’s why we’ve started encouraging several large companies to incorporate Move for Hunger into their employee relocation process. Giants like Facebook, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Bridgestone, and Sodexo have already committed to integrating Move for Hunger into their policies! These new relationships will help us recover thousands of additional pounds of food every year.

By introducing Move for Hunger through employee relocation, we hope to open the door to further action with corporations outside of the moving industry. Perhaps it’s something as simple as organizing a company-wide food drive, or motivating employees to join Team Move for Hunger and fundraise at an upcoming race. Ultimately, we want to empower our partners to make fighting hunger and food waste part of their corporate culture.

In this NJTV interview, Move for Hunger’s founder and executive director, Adam Lowy, explains how Move for Hunger compels community action in our home state of New Jersey.

THANK YOU for championing Move for Hunger and making your own donation! Please continue spreading the word that hunger and food waste don’t have to go hand-in-hand. By working together, we can rescue food and get it into the pantries of families who need it most.
