Dear Rainforest Champion,
As the rainy season comes to an end, we are ready for the most active time of the year for our research projects at Finca Las Piedras.
As part of our collaboration with a grant from the Peruvian government, our Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) biology and ecology project will have its first DNA lab in a few months! This great new addition to the project won’t only add to the research infrastructure we have at the station but will take our research to the next level, including molecular work. We expect this new lab will be an invaluable resource for the local academic community, opening the doors to undergraduate students and researchers who can get crucial molecular biology and DNA analysis skills.
We are over the moon with this news and will keep you posted on how this lab develops over time. This type of resource is very scarce in our region, but we hope that our efforts will gradually democratize the way we advance science in our part of the Amazon.
As we step into this new era, we are ready to work even harder. We couldn’t do everything we do without you, and for that, we are always grateful!
