Pakistan has an annual monsoon during the summer months, however because of climate change the monsoon of 2022 was of epic proportions. Farmlands and whole villages were left underwater. Villagers were marooned, surrounded by water with very little to eat or drink and no immediate access to shelter.
SHINE Humanity was able to organize teams and immediately travel to flood affected areas, and set up emergency medical camps. The teams were met with a population that was not only hungry with no place to call home, but also in dire need of medical attention. With the help of our donors and collaborative partners, SHINE was able to provide hot meals and medical aid to the flood affected population.
To date we have set up over 120 medical camps in the flood affected areas, treated over 19,000 patients and provided 240,000 hot meals (2 meals a day) to the needy.
As winter approaches and flood victims are still far from being rehabilitated, concerns are growing that the cold temperatures will threaten those living in vulnerable circumstances. To help withstand harsh winters, SHINE Humanity is now distributing warm clothes and blankets through their medical camps. We are collecting warm clothes and blankets at our office as well working with our institutional partners to ensure that especially women and children have enough warm clothing to survive the harsh winters.
The flood affected population still is in need of care and support. We are grateful to all our donors whose generosity have allowed SHINE Humanity to continue its mission of providing healthcare to underserved communities.
