More than six months after devastating floods swept across Pakistan, 10 million people living in the hardest-hit areas still have very little access to clean drinking water and sanitation. Children and young babies are suffering from malnutrition, diarrhea, malaria and other painful skin conditions.
Razia, an 80-year-old woman who was displaced from her home during the flood was brought to our flood relief camp with high-grade fever, diarrhea and severe body ache. Frail and dehydrated, our expert doctors diagnosed her with Dengue Fever. She was provided with IV hydration and all necessary medication to bring back her health.
Although flood waters have receded, there are still thousands of people like Razia who were stranded on patches of dry land. These survivors are holding on to any hope that they can receive warm food, safe drinking water and medical help and long to go back to their villages.
SHINE Humanity took on the task and focused on districts such as Thatta, Sujawal and Malir, in Sindh province, where the burden of relocated flood-affected population was higher. Our doctors assisted by allied staff, evaluated, diagnosed and provided free medicines to patients who otherwise did not have access to healthcare.
With the support of our donors, SHINE Humanity has to date, treated over 31,855 patients in need of medical help and provided over 429,000 hot meals to frail and starving families in dire need of nutrition.
