Valentina - 7 years old In March 2023, she arrived at the foster home, together with her mother, referred by the Dr. Gustavo Fricke Hospital in Vina del Mar, due to a Ewing's sarcoma in one of her hips. Valentina is a cheerful and extroverted girl, who enjoys playing with other children and together with her mother she gives them gifts and takes care of them so that their stay is happy during this stage.
Cancer does not discriminate against age, social status or place of origin. Many children diagnosed with cancer must leave their homes and cities of origin, because in their regions there are no oncology centers to be treated and, therefore, they must travel to Santiago with a family member or guardian.
Currently, Fundacion Nuestros Hijos has three shelters with the necessary conditions to care for an immunocompromised child and his or her caregiver.
More and more children will be able to have access to treatment in Santiago without the additional expense of renting in that city.
