Hope, Opportunity for 3,200 kids in Eastern Europe

Family is so important in a child’s life. Family provides a child with roots, much-needed structure, and unconditional love. But there are times when children cannot live with their family, times when they are left alone, when they have no one to talk to, no support, no guidance.

Our partner New Beginning, Ukraine provides educational, vocational, emotional and physical development for orphans, in a dedicated dormitory at a local technical college.

Nadiya's family lived in poverty. Her father died from a serious illness when she was just 4, and sadly her mother could not cope and started drinking, often leaving the children alone in the house. They walked through the village hungry, cold and dirty. With her mother not managing to conquer her addiction, when Nadiya was 8 years old, the mother was deprived of parental rights and the children were sent to a boarding school. The mother has never come back.

Nadiya is a very friendly, capable and calm girl and achieved distinction in all her subjects thanks to new friends and very kind “mothers” – tutors and teachers. Now she is nearly an adult but she still needs our help. Stepping towards an independent life, she very often wonders what will happen next.

She needs adult support and whilst in our centre she learns to help friends and communicate with them, learns to cook, to look after clothes, to buy in a store, to manage finances and so on.

Making a new beginning without a family to provide support and guidance can be difficult for a young person.
