A Lifeline for Families Facing Hardship

Thank you for making this work possible. Your generosity is helping children return to learning, providing families with essential support, and bringing hope to communities facing hardship.

Here are two recent updates from our partners in Ukraine and Transnistria.

Our partner Children's Hearts Ukraine recently shared an encouraging update about their new Kindergarten of Hope initiative. Many of the families they support cannot afford the costs associated with public kindergarten, leaving young children without access to early education and care. Before the programme began, older brothers and sisters often had to miss school to look after younger siblings at home. Thanks to the kindergarten, younger children now have a safe place to learn and play, while older siblings are free to return to school and continue their own education.

The project is already transforming lives. Children receive nutritious meals, educational activities, and the care and stability they need to thrive. Some arrived showing signs of food insecurity, eating quickly because they were unsure when they would next have enough food. Today, they are gaining confidence, building friendships, and preparing for a brighter future.

Meanwhile, in Transnistria, our partner Family Love continues to support families living on the edge of despair by providing food parcels, essential supplies, and practical assistance. For many struggling households, this support is a vital lifeline.

Hope, Healing, and New Beginnings

Learning to swim, learning to trust

Dear Supporter,

Because of your generosity, vulnerable children and families across Ukraine and Moldova continue to receive the support they need most.

Over the past few months, your donations have helped provide essential items such as food, clothing, fuel, and other basic necessities to families facing hardship. At a time when many are struggling with uncertainty, your kindness is helping bring stability, comfort, and hope.

In Ukraine, the war continues to affect everyday life, especially for children. Yet thanks to your support, children are finding moments of joy, creativity, and healing through summer activities, the Refugee Camp Art Club, and programmes run by our partners.

At Children's Hearts Summer Camps, children from vulnerable and at-risk families are making new friends, building confidence, and rediscovering the joy of childhood. For some, it is the first time in a long while that they feel safe, included, and able to look to the future with hope. Through shared experiences, encouragement, and care, these camps are helping children create happy memories and regain confidence in themselves.

Little Lighthouse continues to be a source of hope for vulnerable children and families, providing essential supplies alongside creative workshops and therapeutic support. Through art, play, and counselling, children are finding safe ways to express their emotions, heal from difficult experiences, and rebuild their confidence.

While New Beginnings continues to support teenagers leaving orphanage care as they take their first steps towards independent living, it also provides a loving foster family home for vulnerable children. Through care, guidance, and practical support, young people are given hope and the opportunity to build brighter futures.

In Moldova, our partner Tony Hawks Centre recently celebrated an extraordinary milestone: 25 years of supporting children with disabilities and vulnerable families. Their dedication has transformed countless lives and continues to provide hope to families who often have nowhere else to turn. Family Love continues to support families in need, providing essential support parcels and psychological support for both children and parents. Their care helps families navigate difficult times with greater hope and resilience.

Meanwhile, at Esther House, children are enjoying a summer filled with learning, creativity, friendship, and fun activities. These experiences help build confidence, encourage personal growth, and create precious childhood memories.

Across all of these projects, one message shines through: hope changes lives.

A warm meal, a support parcel, a therapy session, a new friendship, or simply having someone who cares can make an enormous difference to a child or family facing hardship. These moments may seem small, but they can be life-changing.

None of this would be possible without you.

Because of your support, children are healing, families are receiving help, and vulnerable young people are being given opportunities to build brighter futures.

During the July Bonus Day campaign, an email was mistakenly sent to a small number of supporters from a previous campaign due to a system error. We sincerely apologise for any confusion this may have caused and greatly appreciate your understanding.

A Fragile Childhood Held by You

Dear Supporter,

Every day, we meet families facing situations that no child should have to grow up in. We see childhoods shaped by fear, uncertainty, and loneliness — and we see how hope survives only because someone chooses to care.

One of those children is Olena.

Olena is a naturally shy and withdrawn young girl who lives with her single mother under very challenging circumstances. She struggles to speak with unfamiliar people and often shows signs of anxiety. At home, her emotions are intense — frequent tears, fearfulness, and a constant need for reassurance. Her mother, while loving, is coping with serious health issues and developmental challenges that make daily communication and parenting extremely difficult.

Olena’s WellBeing

Although Olena’s physical health is stable, her emotional wellbeing is fragile. She lives under daily stress because of her mother’s condition and the instability at home. Earlier this year, she tried attending a children’s summer camp.This experience showed how challenging new environments can be for her.

Education and Support at Home

School is difficult for Olena. Social interactions are hard for her, and her mother is not always able to help with homework or school preparation.

To ensure she does not fall behind, our local partner regularly supports her with homework and school-related tasks, offering gentle guidance, structure, and encouragement. This extra help has been essential for keeping her engaged in learning.

Alongside this, she receives school supplies, books, and materials that give her a sense of inclusion and readiness.

Olena is still a child with a soft, imaginative heart. She loves dolls, soft toys, and animals — and dreams of having a pet, although this isn’t possible for her family at the moment.

Support You Made Possible

Thanks to your compassion, we have been able to provide vital assistance to Olena and her mother, including:

Partial support for the mother’s medical examinations and medications
Assistance with overdue utility bills to keep their home safe and functioning
Food packages, clothing, shoes, hygiene items, toys, and school supplies for Olena
Educational support and homework help from our local partner
Parenting guidance for the mother through our “I Am a Mom” club

With the mother currently unable to work due to her health, this support is critical. You are helping a child feel safer, more supported, and less alone in a very difficult world.
