Community Kitchen

By SHONDRA MUHAMMAD | Deputy Executive Director

We don’t have a lot to report since our last update, which is fortunate because we have not suffered through any new disasters.  This period has been giving us time to make some preparations.  Right now, we are upgrading our kitchen.  The upgrade includes a new commercial refrigerator, range, and fryer, which is over $11,000 in new appliances.

Our kitchen has been so essential during times of disaster, and the upgrade will help us to serve more people.  During some of the recent weather disasters, along with the pandemic, we were serving over 300 meals a week.  The kitchen upgrades will allow us to build new programming to continually provide food assistance to the community.

You may remember that we previously discussed a training program for construction contractors.  Unfortunately, we have not moved very far with the planning for that program.  However, we believe the process of upgrading the kitchen, gives us more understanding and a better framework for how the program should operate.

As always, thank you so much for your support!
