Challenge

Hurricane Beryl is a record-breaking storm that has caused extreme damage and prompted states of emergency across countries in the Windward Islands, including Grenada. At least 11 people have been killed and communities across impacted areas are without power while hundreds of homes and businesses are damaged and destroyed. Hurricane Beryl also impacted communities across Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The storm is now striking the US state of Texas.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support communities across the Caribbean and Texas impacted by Hurricane Beryl, with a priority focus on the most disadvantaged and overlooked communities. Initially, the fund will meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. It will also support longer-term recovery efforts led by local, vetted organizations in impacted areas, particularly those working with low-income, historically underserved communities.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Hurricane Beryl Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary shelter and emergency supplies to displaced families
  • Provide support to front-line workers, such as meals and gas
  • Meet other key needs as they emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
