On 28 October 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a catastrophic Category 5 storm, causing widespread destruction and overwhelming the country’s health system. Over 1.5 million people, half the population, have been affected, with critical infrastructure damaged, hospitals impaired, and access to clean water disrupted (OCHA). Medical needs were immense and medical stock in many places unusable.
International Health Partners (IHP) has responded by supplying 63 Essential Health Packs (EHPs) for delivery via our trusted partner Project HOPE. Essential Health Packs act as a mobile pharmacy comprised of two portable boxes packed with medicine to treat patients in any setting. Each EHP reaches approximately 800 patients with a range of prescription and over-the-counter medicines to support critical primary healthcare, ranging from life-saving antibiotics to treatments for non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, where disruption of supply can lead to severe health complications or even death. The medicine contents have been designed to meet basic community and individual health needs.
By sending 63 EPHs, with your support, we have been able to provide treatments to over 50,000 patients in dire need of medical treatment. We are continuing our support by sending another shipment containing bandages.
