What's Happening and How to Help

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like these. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.

The projects listed below are led by vetted GlobalGiving partners responding to this disaster. You can donate directly to a specific project or to GlobalGiving’s Hurricane Otis Relief Fund and we'll allocate it to where it's needed most. GlobalGiving will post reports about how your donation has been put to use.

Humanitarian aid response. Crisis in Acapulco.
Due to Hurricane Otis level 5 in Acapulco, REMAR OCCIDENTE has the need to help those affected in the state of Guerrero. 48 people have already died and more than 580,000 have been affected. Our first priority is to help the community because it has been isolated since the roads were destroyed. We have already sent a team of volunteers to help those who need help. With your donation we will support the population in this terrible catastrophe.
Women rebuilding Guerrero/Hurricane Otis
Due to the devastation created by Hurricane Otis in Guerrero, Fondo Semillas has activated its Emergency and Crisis Protocol, which focuses on the mobilization of flexible and strategic economic resources for the recovery of livelihoods after the humanitarian aid intervention. This response seeks to support recovery in the medium and long term and prioritizes sustaining the lives of the people, organizations, and communities we work with.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
