This project was first launched in 2019 and was the very first initiative that our organization shared on GlobalGiving. At that time, we were still learning how the platform works and how best to connect our projects with supporters around the world.
Although this particular project did not receive funding during its initial launch, it marked an important step for our organization. Since then, we have gained valuable experience using the platform and have successfully raised over $2,000 USD through other community initiatives. These early lessons helped us better understand how to engage donors, share updates, and communicate the impact of community-led work in Barbuda.
The need for hurricane shutters in Barbuda remains significant. As a small island community that has experienced the devastating impacts of storms such as Hurricane Irma, improving household preparedness continues to be an important priority for families across the island. Hurricane shutters can provide an essential layer of protection, helping homes withstand strong winds and flying debris during storms.
Our organization remains active and committed to supporting community resilience in Barbuda. Over the past several years we have continued working on environmental protection, community initiatives, and youth engagement programs that strengthen the island’s long-term sustainability.
With the experience we have gained since first joining GlobalGiving, we are now preparing to relaunch this project and renew our efforts to raise funds for hurricane shutters for homes in Barbuda. We believe that with stronger outreach and engagement, this initiative can now reach the supporters needed to help protect vulnerable homes.
We thank all those who continue to follow and support our work in Barbuda. Your encouragement helps us continue building safer, more resilient communities for the future.
