If the start of the year is anything to go by, 2025 is shaping up to be a busy and exciting year for I Have a Dream. We've already had a fantastic start, filled with inspiring events, impactful activities, new team members and meaningful progress with our Dreamers.
We are excited about the journey ahead and are looking forward to continuing to connect with our incredible donors, supporters and wider whanau as we expand our impact, strengthen our relationships, and continue to improve outcomes for the tamariki we serve.
We hope you enjoy reading about the incredible mahi already underway this year. We'll be in touch again next month to share our Annual Report and Audited Accounts for 2024.

A special visit from Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro
During her recent tour of Northland, Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro requested to visit I Have a Dream at partner school Te Kura o Otangarei. Alongside husband Dr Richard Davies, Her Excellency enjoyed a student-led mihi whakatau and a tour of the Otangarei Garden Oasis.
Summer Adventures, Creativity, and Connection
This year's Summer Holiday Programme was packed with coastal adventures, creative expression, and plenty of outdoor fun! Our Dreamers stayed active, built strong connections, and embraced new learning opportunities
2025 First Foundation Scholarship awardees
We are proud to share that two exemplary Year 13 Dreamers from Tikipunga High School, Trent Bowater and Awatea Poutai have been recognised for their commitment to hard work by being awarded First Foundation Scholarships towards tertiary studies at an awards ceremony last month. Tikipunga High School Head Boy Awatea's story was also featured this week on the front page of the Northern Advocate. The story is part of a new 'good news story' campaign called 'On the Up' and acknowledges the part many supporters have played in Awatea's journey so far including Tikipunga High School, I Have a Dream, Navigator Lucia Kotze, mentor Dave Cotty, along with Awatea's whanau.
March was all about movement, community, and hauora! From hiking mountains to lunchtime conga lines, the Dream Team embraced every opportunity to stay active and inspire our Dreamers, plus raise vital funds for I Have a Dream.
Since becoming a regular donor, Marie Kaire has gone above and beyond to support I Have a Dream. She's not only passionate about the programme's long-term impact on tamariki but actively works to raise awareness about I Have a Dream.
Cementing Community Connections
Our annual Whanau Celebration Event was another huge success, thanks to stunning weather, our Dream Partners, and the energy of our Navigators and volunteers. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with whanau and celebrate the strength of our community.
Last month, we had the privilege of hosting the I Have a Dream team from Upper Hutt, including 2 new Navigators, for a week of learning, connection, and development. Te Kura o Hau Karetu Upper Hutt Principal / Kaihautu shares her thoughts on the programme in the article linked below.
A Future Pro Surfer in the Making?
During a learn to surf day at Sandy Bay run by our Dream Partner, Tutukaka Surf, as part of our Holiday Programme, Year 5 Dreamer Gian showed a remarkable natural talent and love for surfing. Read how his Navigator, Whaea Bailey, is supporting him to further develop his skills and passion.
Our I Have a Dream team is expanding, welcome to Bradee and Molly
In addition to two new Navigagors for Upper Hutt, Bradee Taitua has just joined the High School team as the Year 11 Navigator at Tikipunga High School.
Molly, hailing from Zimbabwe, joins the Whangarei team alongside Bradee as a school based Navigator at Te Kura o Otangarei.
