If you think education is expensive try ignorance

I hope this report finds you all well,

Here its very hot already and our schools are open only in early morning.

For this update I thought I would like to tell you about our programme to encourage children who for various reasons are not in school. Our team with the blessing of the local administration have been visiting local slums and poor villages to see how they can help in the process of getting children back to school.

As supporters may be aware we have much experience of helping girls in our school catchment areas get to school and more importantly stay in school to get qualifications and your support helps us maintain this programme. It was because of the success of this programme the local administration asked us to visit other areas and to date our team has readmitted over 112 children into schools and they are attending well.

Of course, covid disruptions contributed to this.

It costs just 10 dollars per child to equip them and buy books and uniforms to enable them to return to school.

It’s time for another update.

I want to tell you all about our programmes especially for girls here at People First.

Regular readers of this newsletter will have read many moving stories from girls and other students about how their lives were completely changed for the better due to the education we were able to provide so for this update I thought I would tell you about our programmes to help girls particularly.

Here are some of the measures…

We have more than 50% female staff and teachers many of whom are in senior management.  

Girls in all our schools and centres are given extra encouragement.

Girls at our flagship school at Dhobi can avail of a special support programme which works with the whole family to keep girls at school.

We have TOP (the opportunity programme) which offers sponsored places for further academic studies and courses in further education

Please be assured that our schools are providing quality education to the poor whom otherwise would not have the chance to receive it.

“Because there is a programme at our school for girls only where the people first staff and my teachers sometimes talk to my parents and they have signed a bond which says I can be in full time education for as long as I need it. I work very hard but I enjoy my school very much and I want to be a doctor for animals. I was first position in my class and my family is very proud. My school being a people first school is free to all the poor children but because I am part of the education for girls programme I get extra money for books and school materials and uniform, and the Trust has made sure that my parents support me. I want to thank you for your support very much and wish you and your families well”.
