Ifarantsa school has a population of 144 students. The school has only two on-site classrooms, shared by the first- and third-year students. Due to insufficient learning space, the second-year students, take their classes from a loaned storage room, one kilometre from the school. With the limited classrooms, the students are unbale to take specialised lessons and are all forced to take the general studies together.

In addition to this, students are unable to adopt healthy behaviours due to the school's insufficient WASH facilities. There is only one latrine cubicle for teachers and one cubicle for students, resulting in a student-to-latrine ratio of 144:1, which is significantly higher than the national ministry guideline ratio of 50:1.
SEED will construct one fully furnished three-classroom school building with attached teacher accommodation, three gender-segregated latrines with a menstrual hygiene management (MHM) facility and provide one 10,000-litre rainwater harvesting system complete with drinking and handwashing stations. The provision of infrastructure will be complemented with sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) education, delivered to students and teachers through a train-the-trainer model.
This project is expected to transform the educational and health outcomes of the Ifarantsa community. It will provide a safe and dignified learning environment, enabling all students to attend both general and specialised classes onsite, in sufficiently large classrooms. The project will support consistent school attendance, especially for girls, after the construction of the MHM facility. This project will also reduce teacher absenteeism with the onsite teacher accommodation.
