August Project Report - Caretakers get involved

By Shoshana Grossman-Crist | Communications and Quality Control Coordinator

August was an exciting month at the Center in anticipation of the start of the school year. Some recent activities include:

With the start of the 2010-2011 school year, more school-age children have been invited to participate in the program. These older children will participate in after-school activities at the Center, while the activities for younger children will also continue.

IMIFAP held an informative workshop for 30 parents and guardians of participating children, in which we explained the activities and goals of the Center and did some life skills training. The caretakers are now really motivated to be more involved in the Center´s activities and told us that they would like more workshops to learn how to better care for the children. We hope to provide more adult trainings in the coming months in order to promote the comprehensive development of the children outside of their participation at the Center.

The plans to open a new “I want to, I can” Development Center in the nearby community of Panales are underway. We have strengthened our contacts with local government authorities and aim to open the Center in the first months of 2011.

Thank you for your continued support!
