Poverty Reduction Initiative plans to improve girls education by providing scholarship for girls who are living in abject poverty in the slum communities of west point and Clara town in Liberia. This project improved girls education by providing uniforms, modern text books, feeding and full time guidance counselors to advice on curriculum and advancement,as well as on girl health, including reproductive health. Liberia is emerging from many years of civil war, which has led to internal displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, disrupted delivery of basic social services, and increased the vulnerability of women, girls and children to extreme poverty, hunger and disease, including AIDS according to the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative (UNGEI). This project will affect more than 200 girls in the slum communities of West point and Clara town and provide education and basic necessity.
The project will train girls in business skills which include cosmetology, pastry, tailoring, hairdressing, computer and provide academic scholarship for girls in the slum communities of west point and Clara town. By learning these skills girls have a source of income generation after completing high school that helps to lift them out of poverty. The girls are also taught to share their new knowledge with their neighbors. The project provides space to increase girl participate in decision-making
The project will educate 200 girls, improving their knowledge and skills to get out of abject poverty which will provide for their family's needs and well-being. Educated girls go on to educate their communities and benefit from the country's economy. Educated girls who become mother send their children to school, passing on multiplying benefits. Educated girls who become mother are knowledgeable and less likely to die during childbirth and educate their communities about better health services
