In order to improve the volunteers' service skills and team work ability, Shining Star provided online training for the 60 Grow teachers on two Saturday afternoons, November 5 and November 12, 2022. Since the service objects are all minors, it is essential for teachers to lay the foundation for mastering the core of the project and volunteer service ethics. Combined with the characteristics of the service, the core theory of the project curriculum - resilience, and the ethical principles of youth service were shared to help you lay a solid foundation for the future volunteer teaching service.
To help the teachers have a better understanding of the project framework and how to carry on a good class, we explained the project framework and the arrangement of volunteer teaching service in detail, and answer questions for everyone. Although the camp’s time is only 10 days, the 10-day journey is very important, which can build a strong foundation for the “School Year" which is the second year of the project. All volunteers will learn from the "Growth classroom demonstration lesson" video to learning how to create the classroom atmosphere and the design of the classroom process. Many volunteers said that through watching the learning and training of the demonstration class on video, they understood that volunteers need to have a gentle but firm attitude, and use interesting games to bring knowledge to the children, rather than teaching the knowledge forcibly. How to communicate with the client in a gentle but firm manner is also very essential! Therefore, we also learned the positive discipline content together and organized the growth teachers to conduct situational simulation exercises. With Xue's story, relevant skills are shared from four aspects: relationship connection, listening with empathy, inspiring questions and encouraging recognition. Through various role playing and experience in the training process, university volunteers can learn positive communication skills more directly and feel the charm of positive discipline. The training came to a successful end, and we once again felt the seriousness, enthusiasm and expectation of each Grow teacher for service. Looking forward to meet the kids in winter camp! Keep pray for the Covid break in Guangdong China!!
