This project improves the educational quality of the Ann & Ted Kheel Polytechnic School located in Veron, an underserved community in eastern Dominican Republic, through the improvements of the facilities, English learning program, teaching capacity and methodologies of the school teachers, cocurricular activities, among others. 700 students and 11 teachers together with their families are the beneficiaries
The school is the only one of its kind in the entire area offering high school and technical skills training to low-income youths, the vast majority of whom does not have the opportunity of pursuing university studies. The local labor market (especially the tourism industry) demands increasingly competent human resources. It is vital to improve the school so that its graduates can have greater and better opportunities to access the labor market.
The project will continue to expand and improve the facilities (sports areas, classrooms, multipurpose room). At the same time, it will continue to develop an extensive training program in order to improve the performance and efficiency of teachers; as well as the continuation of the strengthening of the English language learning program and a varied and innovative offer of co-curricular activities for students, which will promote their professional quality and human development
More and better opportunities for youths and adults, thanks to their technical and English language skills, which will enable them to access the labor market and have better living conditions together with their families (housing, food, health, etc.). Promotion of the community leadership through a educational program governed by human values. Availability of suitable human resources for the local tourism industry, thus contributing to the economic and social development of the region
