This project contribute to improve the life conditions of the disabled children of La Altagracia Province in the Dominican Republic, especially those living in poverty in the Punta Cana region, through the operation of a specialized health center in the community of Veron that will benefit to more than 3,000 children
According to a survey conducted in 2018 by Grupo Puntacana Foundation and partners, in the vulnerable communities in the Punta Cana region there are more than 150 disabled children (down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy) . 90% are 0-12 years old and belong to dysfunctional families. Our health center has the basic equipment but there are still needs to meet and challenges to overcome in order to expand the service offering and achieve a higher level of operational performance
The center located in the community of Veron offers: Evaluation, diagnoses and treatment (Early care, behavioral, speech, occupational, physical and family therapies; and pediatrics, physiatry, nutrition, psychiatry, nurses, social work areas as well, among others). The project will continue making its best efforts to improve the service offering through the acquisition of additional medical equipment and supplies and the execution of new health programs and the ongoing staff training program
The first stage of the project is bringing the following benefits to more than 3,000 families living in the deprived communities of La Altagracia Province: Decreased socio-economic cost of disabilities, decreased social disadvantage caused by disabilities, substantial improvement of the life conditions of the beneficiary patients and their families, better professional practices and training of the human resources involved due to the partnership with renowned medical entities
