Improving lives of 1000 girls in Nairobi's slums

Through its continuous efforts of striving to learn, improve and grow its programs’ impact, VAP has won a spot on GlobalGiving’s Top 10 list of Non-profit organizations committed to impact https://www. globalgiving.org/learn/top-10- nonprofits/. This has been as a result of actively participating in the GlobalGiving Rewards systems which GlobalGiving uses to recognize the over 17,908 nonprofit partners globally  who are committed  to learn improve and grow. The Reward system provides tools and trainings necessary for nonprofit organizations to utilize as they continue to build and scale up the capacity of their programs while receiving points for both effectiveness (commitment to learning) and Engagement (participation on the GlobalGiving platform).The listing has been accompanied by a seed grant from GlobalGiving which will go towards strengthening the capacity of the programs."I wonna say thank you very much for your continous donations through GlobalGiving that contributed largely on our impact and effectiveness.Please rest assured that this award also belongs to you." Final Touches on Hair and Beauty Course

With a few months left before the 2017 curtains come down, the last batch of Mrembo salon vocational training candidates are on the tail end of their hair and beauty courses. The girls have been engaged in both practical and theoretical sessions that also included financial and computer literacy lessons as part of their readiness into employability and entrepreneurship world that awaits them in the not- too- distance future. “My aim is to open my own salon and provide a job placement to one of the Mrembo hair and beauty vocational training candidates.” Said 18 year old Mercy.

No sooner had she finished spending a couple of months on vocational training focusing on pastry and baking than Damaris’s dream of securing a job at a 5 star hotel came into being. The job search, CV writing and computer literacy skills gained from the vocational training as an additional package played a catalyst role towards securing the job. “Am very happy for all the skills that I have gained both for my social and economic lifestyle. I have learnt a lot through football and I can testify how powerful it can be to change the lives of people.” Said Damaris.

 VAP Coach Inspires Indian Girls

With invitation from Discover Football, an organization based in Germany that focuses on enhancing women’s football professionalism right from the grassroot levels to the greater heights, coach Eva from VAP was amongst eight coaches representing eight countries from around the world that were invited to Goa India to attend Discover Football Festival. The festival involved workshops for players, coaches and journalists. The theme of the festival was ‘Women’s rights, gender equality and sexual reproductive health’. The event was used as a platform to sensitize the community on women’s rights to play football, adore their bodies as well as taking opportunity of the Discover Football Festival’s activities on amending their structures and improving women’s football.

VAP Coaches Meet With Local Standard Chartered Bank

As part of their community engagement exercise, standard chartered bank organized a one day capacity building training session with VAP coaches at the bank’s headquarters in Nairobi.   Attended by several staff from different divisions representing the bank, the sessions created a platform for VAP to showcase what Goal program is all about and its impact in the community. The trainings were led by Corporate Affairs Brand and Marketing (CABM) in collaboration with ICAS who provided counseling sessions on stress management.VAP coaches shared their own personal stories and some of the challenges they encounter while working with community.
