Students from Kariobangi primary school were some of the Mrembo graduates who graduated from Goal programme the month of March. The participants were awarded with certificates as a confirmation of completing the program and becoming certified community ambassadors in their respective communities. Offered on a weekly basis, the program covered topics such as: Be empowered, Be Healthy, Be money savvy and Be yourself. The four modules are focused on one of four key life skills: communication, health and hygiene, rights and financial literacy.” Am proud to have learnt issues and rights of a girl child. VAP Hosts Swiss Academy for Development
On its mission to Nairobi, Swiss Academy for Development paid a courtesy call to VAP offices to witness firsthand the youth empowerment projects. The four hour visitation focused largely on Mrembo project and the usage of football as the conduit for social change addressing sexual reproductive issues and rights, and its linkage to employability skills through vocational trainings i.e. pastry , hair and beauty courses. Being a non-profit, non-governmental organization not affiliated with any political party or religious group, SAD has a considerable expertise in promoting interactive, participatory approaches to non-formal and life skills education applying a playful approach to learning.
Future Forward Workshop
Organized by Ashoka Africa in conjunction with The MasterCard foundation, Change maker X –a convening for social impact focused on transforming youth livelihoods and leadership across Africa was held in USIU, Nairobi on 10th March. The event was attended by various youth across Africa who show cased the learnings and accomplishments of the Future Forward project, an invaluable collaboration off-shoot of Ashoka and The MasterCard Foundation’s shared desire to address the challenges of youth employment in Africa.As one of the invitees,VAP had an opportunity to share and relate its football for employability initiative and engage in sessions with Ashoka fellows and innovators drawn from 43 African countries who also shared their successful inspirational stories.
