This project seeks to contribute to local development of families of the Tzeltal-Tzotzil Cooperative, a group of women and men from Pantelho, Chiapas, dedicated to the production of organic coffee and honey and the elaboration of handmade textiles. Through the strengthening of its production and commercialization processes, developing capacities and including and promoting the participation of women and young people.
Chiapas is one of the poorest states in Mexico. Eight out of ten people are in poverty or extreme poverty. A financial analyst concluded that only 6.1% of the population in Chiapas is far from poverty. This project will benefit the economy of more than 200 families in one of the poorest areas of Mexico. It will help to achieve local development of the Tzeltal-Tzotzil Cooperative.
The Tzeltal-Tzotzil Cooperative will provide training to improve the production processes. It will also allow to have spaces with good working conditions to obtain good quality products for fair trade. This will help to consolidate much more the work that is done in the cooperative and in the members integration processes.
This project seeks to consolidate the Tzeltal-Tzotzil Cooperative as a group that guarantees the long-term well-being of their community, through improvement of its productive activities, strengthening their capacities and fortifying the local cultural identity.
