A warm hello and happy festive season to the incredible GlobalGiving community!
The past two months have been full of momentum, planning, and meaningful progress for the VetBooks For Africa team. With each step we take toward our 2026 trips, we’re reminded just how much this journey depends on the kindness, enthusiasm, and belief of people like you. Here’s a little look into what we’ve been up to since our last globalgiving update:
Afriforum Youth Cycle Challenge
On the 25th of September, our VetBooks team members spent heritage day pedalling away on stationary bikes for the Afriforum 12 hour Cycle Challenge, and what a day it was! From the early-morning nerves to the post-ride exhaustion, the event was filled with energy and laughter, but what moved us the most was the generosity and support we received from our donors and sponsors. Thanks to the generosity of Imla Boerdery, Wildman Hunting and Outdoor Bethlehem,Spartathe BeefCo.,MegaTitan Power,Saxon Beef, and of course, our partners at HERD, as well as the many wonderful family members and friends who sponsored a given rand amount per kilometre ridden, we raised an incredible total of R39000. This achievement means more books, more resources, and more opportunities for struggling veterinary faculties and schools across Africa. To every sponsor and supporter,no matter the donation, thank you for turning a simple ride into something truly impactful.
Countries Confirmed & RoutesTaking Shape
Another exciting milestoneis that several countries along our 2026 route have now officially confirmed with us! Every confirmation brings us one step closer to finalising our itinerary, and it’s been wonderful to start visualising the journey we’ll be taking across the continent. With this progress, we’re now diving deeper into route planning and are currently preparing the information needed to approach potential vehicle sponsors, as well as potential contacts for accommodation along the way. This part of the process always feels the most exciting as it starts to finally feel real.
Our First Microscope Donation
We’re so excited to share that we’ve received our very first donated microscope for the 2026 out reach. This donation marks the beginning of what we hope will be a growing collection of educational and clinical equipment. Microscopes, surgical instruments, diagnostic tools, textbooks, these are the items that truly change the learning experience for students and lecturers across the continent in resource poor areas and lacking facilities.Receiving our first one has only strengthened our hope that more generous donations will follow.
A Final Thank-You
Every win we celebrate, every donation receive, and every kilometre we travel happens because of the community standing behind us.Thank you for walking (and cycling) this journey with us. Your support doesn’t just help us deliver resources, it helps us build relationships, strengthen education, and uplift future veterinarians across Africa. A mission we are so incredibly proud of.
We’re so grateful to have you with us,and we can’t wait to share more updates as our 2026 plans continue to take shape.
Safe wishes this festive season,
The VetBooks For Africa team.
