VetBook's Impact in Action Across Southern Africa

By Sunel Craythorne | Donor Care Officer

Thanks to your continued support, 2026 has already been a meaningful and impactful year for the VetBooks for Africa team. Every initiative we undertake is made possible by donors like you, and we are proud to share what we have accomplished together so far.

In early February, our team travelled to Hoedspruit, where we partnered ALECS and HERD to deliver a community veterinary outreach programme. Working within a local township, we vaccinated over 70 dogs, while also performing health checks, screening for transmissible venereal tumours TVT, and administering deworming treatments. Beyond clinical care, your support helped us extend our impact even further. With generous sponsorship from Montego Pet Nutrition and Pet City Daspoort, we were able to distribute pet food to pets in need, supporting both animal health and the people who care for them.

While continuing with our studies, our team has also been working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for our upcoming outreach trip, beginning on 17 June 2026. We will travel through Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana, bringing veterinary resources, educational support, and practical assistance to under-resourced institutions and communities. The remainder of our target countries will be visited during our December-January year-end trip.

As a student-led, non-profit initiative, every aspect of this journey relies on collaboration and generosity. If any of our supporters are able to assist with accommodation along our route, we would be incredibly grateful. This type of support directly enables us to reach more communities and maximise our impact.

Fundraising remains a core part of sustaining our work. Back on campus, we have embraced the energy of student life, recently selling over 2000 vetkoek through residence initiatives.

These efforts reflect the passion and commitment of our team, who balance academic demands with a shared purpose to give back and raise vital funds.

Looking ahead, we are currently seeking support in the form of fuel sponsorship or access to a vehicle for our travels. Any assistance, whether through connections, partnerships, or  direct support, would make a tangible difference in helping us carry out our work effectively and safely.

Your support is not just a contribution; it is a direct investment in veterinary education, animal welfare, and community upliftment across Southern Africa. We are deeply grateful to have you as part of this journey with us. Here’s to a very successful first trip and we will update once we have safely returned!

Warm regards

The Vet Books for Africa Team
