Project Report | Mar 18, 2019
The final steps

By Mary Mutuku | Project Officer

It is my pleasure to present our project progress report for the 1st quarter (January- March 2019). The project; provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women, is aimed at improving water supply to Mutulani community, in Makueni County, Kenya.

During this quarter, Mutulani community experienced a low season in terms of agricultural/farm production caused by poor rainfall distribution. This is because after the onset of the rain in mid November 2018, it lasted for less than a month a situation that could not nurture the crops to maturity resulting to a great percentage of crop failure. Of significant to note is that the students continued to access clean drinking water within the school compound from the tanks supplied through this project.

The Mutulani community and PEN have been following with various partners whom were approached as well as campaigning for more resources towards project completion. The Makueni County government through the department of water is one of the major partners and has given assurance of equipping the sunken Borehole in 2017 a project that is aimed at increasing the amount of water and sustaining it for the children and the community. The water will also reverse some periodical trends on water shortage through unreliable rains since the water surplus will be used for irrigation.

Once the borehole is equipped, the community and the school shall be trained on project management and sustainability then close this project and focus on the new project; “Giving children a chance to grow and learn” find the link to the project: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/giving-children-a-chance-to-learn-and-grow/

We appreciate the continued support to our project by our donors. We wish our donors a fruitful year 2019.
