It is my pleasure to present this progress report for the 3rd quarter (July-October 2020). The project: Provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women is aimed at improving water supply and sustaining it to serve the Mutulani community in Makueni County, Kenya.
This quarter was a busy one after Covid-19 infection rate reduced, with some mitigation measures such as restricted movement in some areas being lifted and overnight curfew time being reduced. However, a resurgence of infection and death rates has been witnessed to level higher than those before the initial restrictions. There has also been partial reopening of schools with students in grade 4, class 8 and form 4 reported back to prepare for their National examinations. On the contrary of the negatives of Covid-19, one encouraging thing is the increased output in agricultural production especially vegetable products in Mutulani and across the country.
The three year wait for water flow in Mutulani is also coming to an end. Davis and Shirtliff, a global water systems installation company, gave a 50 per cent support towards the installation of a solar-powered water pump. GlobalGiving funds were used to complete the remaining 50 percent, the construction of an elevated water collection tank and piping of the water to Mutulani Secondary School. The community, teachers and students of Mutulani Secondary could not hide their joy after opening to find flowing water in a period calling for strict adherence to handwashing as a measure towards prevention of the spread of Corona virus.
PEN and the community are planning to raise more funds to take water to the primary school and distribute to the community too as well as recharge system to focus on supply sustainability of the project and promote water and sanitation within all the Mutulani schools and the community.
We sincerely thank our donors and still make a kind request to continue supporting this noble cause of transforming Mutulani area towards achieving a sustainable water source. We also extend our appreciation to the GlobalGiving Program Team for the continued support in actualizing this dream.
Thank you
